Personal Branding Photos: Luxury or Business Must?

Let me answer the question straight away: in my opinion, personal branding photos are a must. Not a luxury.

I've always said it, and I don't think I'll ever change my mind — people buy from people. If you're a business owner, your clients want to see who they're working with.

I know it can feel scary. When you're starting a business, you're already juggling stress, money, a hundred decisions a day — and then there's the voice asking, "What will people say? What will they think when they see me?" Putting yourself in front of a camera is often the very last thing you want to do.

But believe me — it's a must.

Emilie's story

I met Emilie almost a year ago at a networking event. She had started her business shortly before, and I had just started mine. We clicked almost instantly — and we've been cheering each other on ever since.

We were there for each other when things went well, and we were there when the doubt hit.

So when she asked me to take her new branding photos — because her business had grown and she'd arrived at a new, bolder chapter — I was overjoyed.

Her old photos no longer matched the woman she'd become. Her new ones do.

Luxury or business asset?

Something I've noticed this year, moving between business communities in London and Surrey, is how differently women see brand photography. In some rooms it's a luxury for "one day". In others, women book it in their first month of business — because they understand what it actually does.

Here's what a brand session really gives you:

Content for months, not days.
One session can give you 20, 30, 60 images. That's a LinkedIn post every week, a fresh Instagram feed, a new website, email headers, a speaker bio — without reaching for the same old selfie.

A brand nobody can copy.
Stock photos are used by thousands of businesses. Your face, your workspace, your style — that's the one thing a competitor can't replicate. It's what makes someone remember you instead of the next person who scrolls past.

Hours back in your week.
No more searching your camera roll before every post, or a rushed photo before a podcast or talk. The images are ready — you just choose and publish.

Trust before the first conversation.
People decide whether they trust you long before they contact you. Current, professional images say: this business is real and cared for. An outdated or blurry photo quietly says the opposite.

So — luxury or must?

For me, the answer hasn't changed. If you're building a business, you need to be seen. And the right photos make that so much easier.

If you've been putting it off — this might be your sign.

I write these blogs because I want you to know the real me — not just the photographer, but the woman behind the camera. I hope somewhere in my story you find something that resonates with yours.
